New Orleans Saints
The Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints are returning most key players from their roster but have the opportunity this season to add some depth to some positions that are occupied by aging players that may not be able to produce much longer. The biggest weaknesses for the Saints can be seen on the defensive side of the ball. They are known for a “bend but don’t break” defense and have some play makers but struggled to find a true consistency on the defensive end.
Mike McKenzie was a great pickup and a great player for the Saints late last season but is in the twilight of his career at this point. He is a great fit for the defensive system the Saints run and could have the opportunity to groom a rookie into the role that he currently plays for the Saints. Devin McCourty could be a player that could go late in the first round to the Saints and help as he finds his role in the defense.
The 2nd and 3rd rounds would be good opportunities for the Saints to pick up some more defensive help in the form of the defensive line and perhaps also a safety. The best player on the Saints last season defensively was Darren Sharper, but he is also a guy that is nearing the end of his career and could be a help to a young player for the Saints.
In the 2nd round Jermaine Cunningham from Florida could be a help on the defensive line with the pass rush. With a defense that relies on forcing turnovers it never hurts to have a guy that can get to the quarterback.
In the 3rd round it would be beneficial for the Saints to pick up someone in the safety position. If Major Wright of Florida is available he would be a great option while Myron Rolle from Florida State could also be a viable option.
