Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos have had a busy offseason, adding three defensive linemen and quarterback Brady Quinn.  As a result, don’t expect the Broncos to use any of their first three picks in the 2010 NFL Draft on one of these positions.

The Broncos have holes in many positions.  They have shopped around Pro Bowl wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and even if he remains with the team they still need to add another WR to be competitive.  They released ILB Andra Davis after a solid season, meaning they will likely use one of their first three picks on a linebacker.  Back up running back Correll Buckhalter has struggled with injuries throughout his career, and the Broncos may select a running back in one of the first three rounds.

It will be tough for the Broncos to pass up Dez Bryant (WR, Oklahoma State).  He is the top-rated wide receiver in his class and will either be a decent replacement for the troubled Marshall or a viable alternative threat opposite of Marshall when quarterback Kyle Orton goes back to pass.

If Jahvid Best (RB, California) is still available when the Broncos pick in the second round (45th overall), it’s hard to see them drafting anybody else.  Best is an explosive, lightning-quick back who would be an instant upgrade over Buckhalter as Knowshon Moreno’s backup.  If Best is unavailable, the next best choice at running back is Georgia Tech’s Jonathan Dwyer.

The Broncos will seek to add an inside linebacker when they pick in third round (80th overall).  Jamar Chaney (Mississippi State) is a speedy ILB with good size, but he is coming off an injury and there are concerns as to whether he will regain his speed.  Other ILB’s ranked in Chaney’s area include Roderick Muckelroy (Texas), Donald Butler (Washington), and Daryl Sharpton (Miami [FL]).
