Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars were at the bottom of the league in total sacks last year, registering a paltry 14. Dismal play from the defensive ends was an obvious contributor to this statistic, with the ends accounting for just two sacks all season. The acquisition of DE Aaron Kampman helps to solve some of the problem, but he will need help.
The Jaguars are also in search of a playmaker at wide receiver. Beyond WR Mike Sims-Walker, Jaguars quarterback David Garrard doesn’t have much to work with. The Jaguars will also be looking for a linebacker in the draft to strengthen their weak pass rush defense.
Jacksonville has the tenth overall pick in the first round. Derrick Morgan (DE, Georgia Tech) would be a great value pick at number 10. He was a dominant defensive force in college who will prevent opposing teams from using their blocking resources on Kampman. With these two playing on the defensive ends, there is no question they will combine for more than two sacks.
Jacksonville does not have a second round pick and won’t be picking again until the third round (74th overall). The Jaguars need all the help they can get with their pass rush defense and may use their third rounder on linebacker Dekoda Watson (Florida State).
There is also talk of the Jaguars using their third round pick along with next year’s second round pick to trade down to round 2 so they can draft local hero Tim Tebow. Tebow was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at Florida, helping them win two national championships. He is an icon in the state of Florida who will help the financially struggling Jaguars sell tickets.
The Jaguars pick again in round 4 (108th overall). They may use this pick to draft Riley Cooper (WR, Florida). If they do end up trading for Tebow, Cooper would be a receiver he is familiar with. Jeremy Williams (WR, Tulane) is another WR expected to be drafted in this range of the draft.
