Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins enter the 2010 NFL Draft looking to build their defense after finishing 22nd in the NFL in total defense in 2009. They will also look to add a talented receiver to their team after not having a top 40 wide receiver for the past 2 seasons.
This offseason, the Dolphins signed inside linebacker Karlos Dansby to a 5-year deal worth $43 million, making him the highest paid inside linebacker in NFL history. Many expect them to add more defensive forces in the draft.
The Dolphins are expected to draft DT Dan Williams out of Tennessee with their first round pick (12th overall), who will in turn make Dansby’s job easier by being another force for opposing offenses to worry about. The first round selection will be not be easy, however, if Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant is still on the board. He is easily the best receiver in this draft and will be hard to pass up.
After their failed bid to acquire Pittsburgh Steelers free agent safety Ryan Clark, the Dolphins are looking to obtain a safety with their second round pick (43rd overall). South Florida’s Nate Allen would be an ideal second round pick for them. He is the fourth-rated safety of a very talented group of safeties.
Demaryius Thomas (WR, Georgia Tech), Chad Jones (S, LSU), and Torell Troup (NT, Central Florida) are the likely prospects who the Dolphins would be interested in that will still be available when the Dolphins make their third round selection (73rd overall). They will make their pick based on the results of their previous picks.
