Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills head into the NFL Draft on April 22 led by general manager Buddy Nix and head coach Chan Gailey, both in their first year. They will attempt to fill many of the glaring holes in a lineup that has consistently been mediocre, failing to make the playoffs for the past ten years.
The top brass for the Bills are approaching the Draft with the long-term in mind as they seek to return the Bills to their former glory. They are the owners of the 9th pick of the first round, 9th pick of the second round (41st overall), and the 8th pick of the third round (72nd overall).
Buffalo’s top positional needs are quarterback, left tackle, and nose tackle. With their first round pick, expect them to draft quarterback Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame if he is available. He is the second-rated quarterback of his class after Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, who will likely be the first overall pick.
If Clausen is already taken, the Bills will likely use their first-round pick to take either Dan Williams, DT out of Tennessee, or Trent Williams, OT from Oklahoma. Dan Williams would be a force in the middle of the Bills new 3-4 defense, while Trent Williams is a talented run-blocker and pass-blocker.
Buffalo’s second round pick will rely on what happened for them in the first round. If they weren’t able to draft Clausen, they will look at the best available quarterbacks on the board. Colt McCoy, if available, would be the likely pick in this scenario. They may also use their second round pick on a wide receiver, such as USC’s Damian Williams, to take the place of recently released Terrell Owens.
If Buffalo still hasn’t been able to draft a quarterback, they will likely use their third round pick on one. John Skelton out of Fordham is a strong-armed quarterback who may be able to deal with the strong Buffalo winds.
