NFL Odds have the Eagles as a 1-point favorite and the over/under total at 35 in various online NFL football betting websites.

The teams are entering the 2010 NFL season with different expectations.

The Jets are loaded with confidence after a huge season in 2009. New York surprised many by finishing second in the AFC East with a 9-7 SU and ATS record, and then going on an extended playoff run in which the Jets beat the Cincinnati Bengals 24–14 in the Wild Card round and the San Diego Chargers 17-14 in the divisional playoffs.

The Jets’ season ended when they dropped a 30-17 decision against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Conference championship.

The Eagles, on the other hand, enter the season without Pro Bowl quarterback Donavan McNabb. The Eagles ended up 2nd in the NFC East with an 11-5 SU and 9-7 ATS record last season, but did nothing in the NFL Playoffs as the Jets, losing 34-14 to NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs.

The Jets have struggled in recent meetings with the Eagles, going 0-3 SU and 1-2 ATS in the past three clashes. The teams last met on Oct. 14, 2007, when the Eagles won 16-9 and cashed as a 4.5-point road favorite.

In their 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers got a good look at the players who will be holding down the fort for Ben Roethlisberger during the quarterback’s season-opening suspension. And the results may leave the Steelers pining for Big Ben’s fast return.

While Roethlisberger started the game, he was pulled early to give his back-ups some much-needed work. Byron Leftwich, the presumptive starter during Roethlisberger’s absence, went 0-4 in limited play and Leftwich’s presumptive backup, Dennis Dixon, went 9-16 with two interceptions. Batch, for now the third string quarterback, did manage to go 3-4 with a touchdown, but also threw an interception.

The Broncos almost had their own quarterback issues after seeing starter Kyle Orton go down after a controversial hit by Steelers linebacker James Harrison. However, after sitting out a play, Orton returned on the next series. He was replaced later in the game by Tim Tebow, who had a mixed game, going 5-10 with an interception and a touchdown.

Pittsburgh’s offense proved more productive that Denver’s, outdoing the Broncos in first downs, total yards, total plays, and time of possession. However, the Broncos were able to capitalize on two of the three Steelers’ interceptions, returning them for touchdowns, and also gained an advantage with penalties, committing only eight for 67 yards while the Steelers committed 11 for 93 yards.

A team of obvious struggles is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are also down on popularity charts in NFL lines. They only managed to win 3 games in 2009. Over the course of the season, the Bucs were outscored by more than 150 points. This season with all of their issues, the Buccaneers may not be ready to make the playoffs, but they can go a ways towards improving their team.

Cadillac Williams is one question that is surrounding the Buccaneers. On a tear, Cadillac Williams came into the NFL. Throughout the whole season, he looked like the type of running back that would be able to carry the load for a team. Ever since, he has never been the same sort of workhorse and that season he began to wear down a bit. Whether or not he will ever return to the level of one of the top running backs in the game is hard to tell.

Whether the Buccaneers can put a quarterback on the field that will produce, is another question for them. To find a franchise level quarterback, the team has struggled for years. To take the helm, they have been unable to find someone and they are dealing with Josh Freeman.

Last year Freeman did put up the type of numbers that the Bucs need him too, although he may develop in time. Last season, he turned the ball over 20 times and he will need to improve on that if the Bucs look to win games.

From competing for the playoffs, the Bucs are still a few years away, but 2010 could be a year of progress.

The Atlanta Falcons will enter the 2010 season with the hope of shocking the world. Last season the Saints had their magical season, but the Falcons believe that they have what it takes to dethrone them from their spot atop the division.

The Falcons are led by Matt Ryan. Matt Ryan is a young quarterback that show poise past his years. He has the accuracy and arm strength necessary to be one of the top quarterbacks in the league. One concern is that his performance last year was actually a step back from his play the year before. Ryan had an amazing year for a first year quarterback, but was not able to duplicate such success in 2009.

The Falcons have a rushing attack that is powerful to say the least. Michael Turner is a horse of a running back. His power and speed are a combination that makes him a hammer up the middle. Two seasons ago he had one of the best seasons in the NFL. Last year he was plagued by injuries, but still managed a solid season despite missing 5 games.

The Falcons have the tools on offense, they will just need to sure up their defense a bit. Their defense was solid, but they do have work to do if they expect to be a dominant team in the league.

Barring any issues of injuries the Falcons will be one of the favorites to compete for a wild card spot in the playoffs in 2010.

The Carolina Panthers will enter the season with a bit of momentum that would have been unexpected early in 2009. The team was in the dumps. Their franchise quarterback had fallen below mediocrity and it looked as though they were destined for the dumps.

The Panthers somehow managed to turn things around however. Matt Moore stepped in and excelled at quarterback, posting a quarterback rating of nearly 100 in his 7 appearances. The running game was able to function with either of their two backs. Hope was brought back to Carolina.

That hope was partially extinguished over the offseason with the loss of Julius Peppers. Despite this the team still believes that they can compete once again.

One concern for the team will be at wide receiver. The young quarterback will need a solid option to look to. In years past Steve Smith was a top end receiver that could be looked to deep, over the middle or on the outside. It is hard to tell whether Steve Smith has any gas left in the tank. He has simply not been at his best for a couple of years back. Whether or not the Panthers can win will be largely dependent on his abilities to get open and catch the football.

The Panthers will have a tough draw in 2010. The Falcons and the Saints look a little better than they do on paper. They will need to really come out strong to start the season if they hope for a playoff appearance. The NFL football betting fans will be hoping the same.

The New York Giants are the wildcard for the NFC coming into 2010. Last year the Giants came out blazing. They won their first 5 games and looked as though they were well on their way towards a playoff run. Unfortunately for the Giants, they ran into the Saints and their fortunes changed.

The Giants went on to lose 4 games in a row and were never able to rebound. The team finished with a poor record of 8-8 on the season. Their last two games were blowouts in which they surrendered 40 points or more while scoring less than 10 points.

One of the big factors in the success of the team will be Eli Manning. Last season the Giants’ losses often came when Manning made a lot of turnovers. Manning has all of the tools and actually put together a great season in 2009. Manning will need to limit his turnovers this year however, or the Giants may not be able to step to the next level.

Obviously the defense will be a question coming into 2010 as well. After giving up 40 or more points 5 times during the season there are a few questions surrounding the resilience of the Giants. The Giants did show stretches of good play on defense, but it seemed that when the opponents started rolling the Giants had no method to stop them. That doesn’t exactly sound like the play of a championship caliber team.

The Giants will decide their own fate in 2010. If they can buckle down and play tough they will be a contender.

The Oakland Raiders, of 10 have endured seven straight seasons, or more losses. However, on Tuesday, in a rare radio interview, owner Al Davis said that he believes the 2010 team will end that slump.

Davis said, “I really liken this team a great deal to the team of 1980, in which the great Jim Plunkett pulled us out of the doldrums, took us to the Super Bowl as a wild card, and we had so many great players who eventually made their way into the Hall of Fame.”

He said, in Jason Campbell, his new starting quarterback, he sees some Plunkett.

He added, “I see this young Jason Campbell as a football player like I saw Jim Plunkett. He has everything. He was 13-0 in college, at Auburn, he can throw up the field, and he can run, he’s big, he’s smart. I really predict great things for him. I hope he doesn’t let me down. I don’t think he will.”

To two Super Bowl victories, Plunkett led the Raiders and he was named the Super Bowl MVP in 1980.

In the NFL offseason, Campbell, acquired in a trade with the Washington Redskins, started 52 games for Washington since being a first-round pick in 2005. He has a passer rating of 82.3 in his career and he has thrown for 55 touchdowns, 38 interceptions.

Completing 64.5 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and a passer rating of 86.4, he is coming off his best season, even though the Redskins went 4-12 last season.

As another reason, Davis believes the Raiders will turn things around this season as he specifically mentioned new offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.

Davis said, “We have a bright new young offensive coordinator in Hue Jackson, and I just have great hopes for this young team. It’s a very young team, but I do have hopes for it.”

Philadelphia Eagles have ended the Donovan McNabb era and now enter into a new realm. The Eagles have been led by McNabb for years and have found great amounts of success with McNabb at the helm. The Eagles saw that their quarterback situation was crowded this year and decided that it was time for Kevin Kolb to take over the show.

Kevin Kolb has been named the starting quarterback, but interestingly enough many people don’t think the he will keep the job. The Eagles have backup quarterback Michael Vick, who is a favorite with football betting and he seems to be doing better than he has in years. Vick has the talent package that is unrivaled by any quarterback in the league. His speed, agility and arm strength have not been seen in one player in the history of the game.

He has not proven himself since coming back from suspension, but many believe that his time to play is now.

The Eagles don’t have the strongest talent pool offensively, but they don’t have a few solid tools. The good thing about turning things over to Vick is that he doesn’t necessarily need a huge pool of talent in front of him. He has the ability to take over games and make the defenders pay attention to him rather than the receivers. This can help a decent receiver change into a great one when all of the attention is not focused on them.

The Eagles may decide to develop Kevin Kolb instead, and if they do play Kolb instead you can expect no more than a mediocre season from the Eagles in 2010.

The Indianapolis Colts, in the NFL in 2009 were once again one of the best teams and in 2010; they look to bring similar success to the table. For years, the Colts have been near the top of the league and it is no mystery why.

In the NFL, Peyton Manning is proving to be one of the greatest players to ever play. To carry the team through the ups and downs of the season, Manning is a good enough player.

Since 2002, Manning has not had a quarterback rating under 95 and he has only had one year in his career under 84. It was his rookie season that year. In two seasons of his career, he has never thrown for less than 26 touchdowns in a season, although he has thrown for more than 4000 yards in all. In 2010, it is pretty clear what the Colts are going to get from Manning.

On offense, the Colts have always been great. To go deep in the playoffs, the question each year is whether or not their defense will be tough. Whether or not Dwight Freeney will be able to come back at full strength, will be one question that will come up.

Last year, many remember the issues that Freeney’s ankle had in the playoffs. In the game, Freeney is one of the best defensive players and makes all of the difference for the Colts on defense. For the Colt’s success in 2010, his health will be a key factor.

The Jacksonville Jaguars enter the 2010 season following a finish to 2009 that they’d rather forget. The Jaguars had a surprisingly good start to 2009 that brought playoff hopes to Jacksonville. Unfortunately the team could not get it done when the home stretch came. The Jaguars managed to lose their last 4 games of the season. This left them with a 7-9 record.

The Jaguars will need a much better finish than that in the competitive AFC South Division. The AFC South will be a particularly tough division in 2010.

The Colts are going to be as solid as ever, the Texans are led by the ever improving Matt Schaub, and the Titans appear to be on track to compete for the playoffs under the direction of Vince Young. This division is full of franchise quarterbacks. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they don’t have one.

One thing that the Jaguars do have however is a star running back. The Titans are the only team in the division with a running back that is at or above the level of running back of Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew will be expected to carry a lot of the load as the team tries to put up a lot of points. Each of the other teams in the division will have the ability to put up a lot of points.

The Jaguars will need to improve on defense in 2010 if they hope to compete. Last year the team gave up 380 points on the season while only scoring 290. This -90 ratio was the 4th worst total in the AFC.
