Talks Begin for Bryant and Dallas: NFL

The Dallas Cowboys have opened contract talks with Dez Bryant, first-round draft pick. The Cowboys will hold their first practices Saturday and players report to camp Friday in San Antonio. On current contract negotiations, Cowboys officials do not comment.

Bryant was the second wide receiver taken and he was the 24th overall pick of the draft. In the low 20s, it is difficult to determine the going rate for draft picks, with the Cowboys starting camp early.

Last year’s No. 24 draft pick, Peria Jerry, Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle, signed a five-year, $13.25 million contract with $7.55 million guaranteed.

Percy Harvin, wide receiver for Minnesota Vikings was the fourth receiver taken in 2009. He earned $8.5 million guaranteed with the No. 22 selection.

In 2009, Michael Crabtree was the second receiver with the No. 10 pick by the San Francisco 49ers. for $32 million, he signed a six-year deal after a holdout that lasted into October. If certain incentives are met, that deal, worth about $17 million in guaranteed money could increase to $40 million.

Eugene Parker, who represents Crabtree, also represents Bryant. to sign players, it should not be difficult, said Stephen Jones, Cowboys vice president. He said so because, with Parker, the team has a good relationship. Parker has Anthony Spencer and Felix Jones as his client. Parker had also handled Mike Jenkins’ contract.

Defensive end Sean Lissemore and offensive tackle Sam Young were signed by the Cowboys to four-year contracts. Terms were not disclosed.

If this deal gets done this wil make for some very interesting football betting in 2010.
