NFL minicamps: San Francisco 49ers

The first stages of developing the San Francisco 49ers’ draft class took place when they held their rookie minicamp from April 30 to May 2. The three-day event included two days of practices and one day of meetings. Those still with the team will be invited to attend a minicamp for the whole team that goes from June 18 to June 20.

Considering the difficulty of evaluating players in shorts and t-shirts, San Francisco’s coaching staff viewed the minicamp as an opportunity to familiarize the new players with their way of doing things.

The coaching staff paid a good deal of attention to OG Mike Iupati, one of their two first round selections. Offensive line coach Mike Solari spent a lot of time helping him with his footwork and stance. The 331-pound guard will be a major force if he can improve those skills.

Solari also devoted a fair amount of attention to OT Anthony Davis. Davis was the 49ers’ first draft selection. Davis and Iupati hope to be opening day starters, and their raw talent will need solid coaching to get to that point.

The 49ers selected safety Taylor Mays 49th overall. The speedy defensive back was eager to be a part of the breakneck pace of football played in the NFL. He should have no trouble keeping up with the fastest of NFL players. He has reportedly run a 40-yard-dash in less than 4.40 seconds.

Running back Anthony Dixon, NFL football betting star, was selected by San Francisco in the sixth round. He displayed impressive footwork over the course of the weekend and has won the respect of his coaches.
