Contract demands explained by Chris Johnson

On Wednesday night, Chris Johnson said that this season, his goal is to rush for 2,500 yards. However, the first and foremost thing to do will be to report to training camp. Over a contract dispute, when the Tennessee Titans star running back skipped all of the team’s offseason workouts, reporting to training camp is in doubt right now.

In an interview, Johnson reiterated that he would be satisfied with a short-term solution just to get him into camp and he is seeking a long-term deal.

Johnson said, “I want a long-term deal, but if I don’t get a long-term deal then a short-term deal just to get me to camp — I have no problem with that.”

He said, right now, he is not sure where exactly his contract stands.
He added, “I’m going to let my agent [Joel Segal] and the team handle that”.

For the 2010 season, the Titans reportedly have talked with Segal about converting incentives into a $2.5 million bonus, to get Johnson more money. When the training camp starts on July 31, they also want to get their top offensive weapon in it.

This season, as per the terms of the current contract, Johnson is scheduled to make $550,000.

Earlier, in an interview he described the contract talks as being at a “standstill.”

In 2009, Johnson ran for 2,006 yards and he is seeking at least $30 million guaranteed, long-term deal.

Vince Young, Titans quarterback when asked about Johnson’s contracts said that he supports him.

Young said, “I pray to God that he gets in [for the start of camp]“.
