NFL – Overview of Oakland Raiders franchise, highs and lows.

Oakland Raiders are based out of Oakland, California. They are a part of the AFC (American Football Conference) and play in the Western Division. In 1956, The Raiders team was first formed.

Oakland has won their three Super Bowl wins along with their 12 division titles. They actually struggled pretty badly for the first three years but the Raiders brought on Al Davis as head coach in 1963, after three years of losing seasons. Al Davis brought with him a desire to win as well as a sound strategy of hard work and confidence and this was a turning point in the franchise. “Commitment to Excellence” was the phrase he coined and has been with the team through thick and thin.

With Davis, there were a few legal battles but eventually he moved the team to Los Angeles in 1982.

The eighties won their third of three Super Bowls. Jon Gruden was hired on as head coach and moved the team back to Oakland. In 2000, Gruden would help the team to a stunning in season, when they would go 12-4 and win the division title.

Under Bill Callahan, one of the top players favored by the NFL odds, in the early 2000′s they pick up a future Hall of Famer player in wide receiver in Jerry Rice. The Oakland Raiders have dropped out of contention and have failed to have a winning season since 2002. The team is looking to make changes and bring their franchise back to their glory days of old.
