Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 Draft Review
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were given the third overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft after a 3-13 season. One of the major contributors to their poor record was because of their underperforming defense. The Buccaneers finished last in the NFL in rushing yards allowed and 27th in total yards allowed. As a result, Tampa Bay went into this draft with defense as a top priority.
The Bucs used their third overall pick on Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy. McCoy is an all-around talent who is expected to contribute immediately. He earned his spot in the top 3 of his draft class by displaying exceptional quickness and pass rush skills.
Tampa Bay decided to add another DT in the second round, going with Brian Price of UCLA. Along with McCoy, Price will help to bulk up one of the worst defensive lines in the NFL. He is an exceptional pass rusher and has above average quickness for a DT.
With their other second round pick, Tampa Bay selected Illinois wide receiver Arrelious Benn. Tampa Bay’s top receiver last year was tight end Kellen Winslow, who finished with 884 receiving yards. Their top wide receiver, Antonio Bryant, finished with just 600 receiving yards. As a result, much will be expected out of Benn, who was projected to be a top 10 pick until he suffered an ankle injury and struggled last year due to an unstable quarterback situation at Illinois.
In rounds 3-7, Tampa Bay selected a cornerback (Myron Lewis, Vanderbilt, 3rd round), another wide receiver (Mike Williams, Syracuse, 4th), a punter (Brent Bowden, Virginia Tech, 6th), a safety (Cody Grimm, Virginia Tech, 7th), a linebacker (Dekoda Watson, Florida State, 7th), and a defensive end (Erik Lorig, Stanford, 7th). Over the past, in most of the sports betting blog, Tampa Bay Buccaneers have improved a lot.
