NFC Championship Betting Preview: Jan 24 2010

This Sunday night the Minnesota Vikings travel to New Orleans to play the #1 seed Saints. This is an interesting match-up for several reasons. One reason is that Brett Favre will be playing for a chance to get to his first Super Bowl in over a decade. He’s now 40 years old, but throwing better than ever. Not only that, but he grew up in the bayou, so he will definitely have his share of fans at the game.

Another reason this game will attract so much attention is because the New Orleans Saints are one of the most prolific offenses in NFL history. This often leads to a lot of excitement; however, they will be going against a stellar Vikings defense. Something will have to give.

Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees has never been to a Super Bowl and knows how to pick apart a defense, but if Jared Allen and the rest of the Vikings’ D-line gets to the pocket in a hurry, he won’t have time to throw.

Being that both offenses have so much firepower, don’t be surprised if both teams attempt to run the ball and control the clock. They will do this to keep the opposing offense off the field, as well as to give their defenses rest. The NFL is most likely hoping for a Manning/Favre Super Bowl. If that happens, the ratings will be through the roof. But the Colts have to get past the Jets first, and Brett Favre still has a score to settle.

The Saints are favored by 4 points. The money line is – 200/+ 170. The total is 52.5.
